About us

Dr. István Balázs Szemerey

I attended the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical School of Semmelweis University in Budapest from where I received my diploma in 1982. I was a resident at the Szent István Hospital (Saint Stephen Hospital) and completed my qualification exam in general surgery in 1987. I worked one and a half years at the Plastic Surgery Department of the Szövetség utcai Hospital then completed an additional one and a half years at the Plastic Surgery Department of The Goethe University in Frankfurt on a DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) scholarship. I completed my qualification exam of Plastic Surgery in Budapest in 1991.

I opened my private practice in 1991 where I work to this day as a plastic surgeon and an externist at the István Hospital respectively.

I completed a qualification exam in laser therapy and laser surgery in 1994, which is a new field in plastic surgery (see breast surgery). Aside from professional therapy I took part in a silicone research project, which resulted in a patented invention.

I took part in introducing new techniques in the 1990’s when we first performed endoscopic plastic, such as endoscopic forehead surgery and endoscopic breast augmentation surgery with two colleagues. We reported these results at congresses on a regular basis. At the end of the 1990’s we performed pioneer work in laser surgery with a colleague by performing a complete laser facial peel for the first time.
Alongside regularly attending and lecturing at national and international congresses, I am the co-author of a textbook on Plastic Surgery available in the Hungarian and English languages and am writing a textbook on the subject of Breast Surgery.

I speak German and English alongside Hungarian, my native language.

I am a member of the Hungarian, American and German Associations of Plastic Surgeons.

I am also a member of the Association of Hungarian Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (MPHEST).
